Hand Tool Club is a five-session weekly class that will introduce participants to the essential tools and practice of hand-tool woodwork. This class is over five Wednesdays, 6:00pm- 8:30 from September 20th to October 25th (but no session on October 4th). Difficulty: Intermediate
Each week participants will work through one tool while building a rectilinear box
- Marking tools
- Coping saw
- Handplane and card scraper
Shop appliances will be used and demonstrated (moxon vise, shooting board, bench hook, planning hook).
The class will culminate in the completion of a dovetailed hand-tool tote which will be capable of carrying and storing all of the essential hand-tools. Home practice will be strongly encouraged. Suggested readings/video links will be provided. For the tool tote build we will roughly follow Jay Bates’ “Handcut Dovetail Handtool Tote - 236”. About the instructor: Brad Holley (@HolleyWoodshop on Instagram) is an amateur woodworker from Dartmouth, NS and current vise chair of the Atlantic Woodworkers Association (atlanticwoodworkers.ca). In his personal woodshop Brad regularly builds furniture and household items using both power-tools and hand-tools. Through study, steady practice, and the generous help of experienced others Brad has learned the basic skills of hand-tool woodwork and invites you to learn and practice with him.
